Settled in scenic Black Forest, Colorado, the company has built a strong reputation for engineering high-quality solutions that integrate seamlessly with standing seam metal roofs. Their products are universally used in commercial and residential roof construction to enhance safety, sustainability, and functionality.

Given S-5! ‘s expertise in rooftop applications, the need for a safe and efficient rooftop walkway system to access the large array of solar panels on the southern slope of their roof was a natural extension of their existing infrastructure. This system also needed to be aesthetically pleasing to blend in with the overall natural beauty of the area. To meet this requirement, Design Components, Inc. custom designed a Metalwalk to meet S-5! ‘s unique needs.

The Project Scope and Objectives

The Black Forest, CO project aimed to improve rooftop safety while maintaining roof longevity and operational efficiency. As a manufacturer of rooftop-mounted components, S-5! requires regular inspections and maintenance of their facilities. The installation of the Metalwalk system delivered a safe, stable, and non-penetrative solution for rooftop navigation for their buildings.

The Project

S-5! ‘s new headquarters comprises a two-story office building with a metal roof and an adjacent support building with a metal roof to house the company’s video training center, prototype shop, and testing facilities for their products.

Project Outcome

Design Components supplied a MetalWalk® Rooftop Walkway System and ladders for the standing seam metal roof of S-5’s two-story office building.

This includes:

A 13′ caged ladder to access the north slope of the roof.
A 21′ stretch of walkway leads to a 4′ cageless ladder, which allows you to access a 48′ stretch of walkway along the top of the south slope of the roof.
On either side of the 48′ stretch of the grating are two 30′ stretches of walkway going down the roof in between solar panels, creating a somewhat upside-down U shape of the walkway.
