Commercial Wall Exhaust Fans and Why Ventilation is Important
Large facilities and buildings are full of all kinds of equipment, people and other elements. With certain equipment and technology producing smoke or other smells, issues arise and become overwhelming for the workforce. This is why ventilation is crucial to a facility running properly. It pushes out unwanted chemicals, polluted air and smoke and pulls in fresh air. These ventilation issues can be cured using different types of powered ventilation like Commercial Wall Exhaust Fans.
Fan Specifications and How That Works with Commercial Wall Exhaust Fans
That clean air happening in facilities is normally a result of vents, fans or a combination of the two. There are parameters on models, air volume flow rate (CFM) and other factors that make each type and or model function optimally. Here are some of those parameters when looking at commercial wall exhaust fans.
- Direct or Belt Drive – These two models complete the same tasks, but are utilized differently. A Direct Drive fan focuses on lower volume CFM as well as lower static pressure. These drives require less maintenance and work in tandem with speed control; allows for adjustment of CFM’s. Belt Drive fans are for the higher volume CFM (over 2,000 CFM). These fans contain adjustable pulleys that allow fan speeds to be easily adjusted.
- Cubic Feet Per Minute – Determining the volume of air exchange in a fan is important. Once a fan is selected, your facility should hold information on what should and should not qualify as proper ventilation. The numbers needed within a range should be adjusted in regards to geographic location and the average area duty level. Higher usage areas require a lower range and lower usage areas require a higher range.
- Static Pressure – This is another crucial tool in selecting your fan(s). A fan’s static pressure is measured by inches of water. Most fans typically run less than 2” SP, o 0.072 Psi. Overcoming any static pressure issues all depends on the ductwork and the duct length. To the right is a chart covering the static pressure guidelines.
- Sound Levels – Commercial Wall Exhaust Fans are typically noisy equipment. In the fan industry, the sound a fan produces is labeled a sone. Sones are sound pressure levels that are measured linearly.
Design Components
With those specifications and parameters in mind, we want to touch on what we have to offer for your ventilation needs by focusing on our Commercial Wall Exhaust Fans. Our typical metal building wall exhaust fans feature heavy galvanized steel and “x-wing” automatic belt tensioning systems. These fans come in 36“diameter propeller (40” x 40” frame) and 48” diameter propeller (52” x 52” frame) models. They also can be equipped with a metal OSHA guard for the interior. These exhaust fans are meant to be placed in existing framed openings and come with dampers.
Another option in addition to your Commercial Wall Exhaust Fans would be to include roof top fans. We offer Commercial Roof Vent Fans that are optimized for operational ease. These roof-mounted fans are constructed of galvanized steel or aluminum material. The vertical discharge design has dampers that keep out rain and snow even while operating. When the fans are not operating, the counterbalanced dampers close to provide a weather-resistant closure until next use. The fans are direct-drive or belt-driven. The blades on these fans have blade diameters from 24” to 84”. The motors that are present on the Commercial Roof Vent Fans come with many options: ¼ to 20 horsepower, single and 3 phases, Open Drip-Proof (ODP), Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC), Totally Enclosed Ball Bearing (TEBB), or explosion-proof upon request. All of these options feature optional roof curbs as well as other accessories including disconnect switches. These would work well with our Commercial Wall Exhaust Fans to ensure your making the right ventilation investments.
